What’s also apparent is that if not fully appreciated, these challenges will only continue to grow as European companies seek to achieve plans expand their international footprint and remain globally competitive. Expanding their operational presence in new territories is a key aim for today’s organisations; that is according to over 77 per cent of senior executives in an Economist report which stated it as on their ‘to do list’ for progress by 2015. The overwhelming majority of the same group of senior executives also believe that their workforce will need to know English if the company is to succeed in its international expansion plans.

As organisations desire to gain a foothold in exciting and progressive economies it is crucial that a common language of communication is put to best use. Encouragingly, in the last six years English language learning has increased across all of the BRIC nations. To further ready ourselves for progress in this area the provision of English language training is a great way to break down barriers and prepare entire workforces and companies for success.

Encouragingly, it’s clear that today’s employees and students are remarkably ambitious and are increasingly coming to interviews equipped with a real desire to learn. As such, 69 per cent of recent survey respondents who did not speak English as their first language said it is the most important language for them to learn. Being able to tap into the talented individuals that could give a company a critical advantage over its competition is an incredible asset. Providing these individuals with the skills they need to succeed in today’s business environment is essential not only for personal development, but also ensures organisations are attracting, retaining and nurturing the best talent from around the world.
