Weekend in Hamburg

As winter was ending I decided to put my German-learning into practice and try out my new language skills in a new city. So I left Berlin for a weekend and went to visit Hamburg for the very first time—a city that I always thought I’d love. Turns out I did! The city has an amazing sense of style and seems to be an exciting mix of contemporary bohemian culture and an old-world style. Hamburg is cool, but not so cool that it overpowers everything else in town.

Hamburg is historically the publishing powerhouse in Germany—it’s where most of the publishing industry has been based, and it’s heavy on advertising and creative firms. These days, there are young fashion designers and musicians making Hamburg their home base. Here are my impressions from the city in my video diary from the weekend:
