Language Success With Rosetta Stone Software

2007 April, 18

When Justin heard about Rosetta Stone’s language software he decided to go on to the website and try a demo.

When 26-year-old Justin Tonkin, a London-based economist, decided to brush up on his German language abilities, evening classes seemed the obvious method. He signed up for a class at a well-known London college in 2005 and began his language training.

Justin has family heritage in Germany and frequently travels to the country. He wanted to learn to communicate better with his German grandfather, and also believed that a good working knowledge of German could be advantageous to his career.

The classes proved to be very effective, helping him to build confidence in speaking and enhance his vocabulary. However, as a busy economist at a top London consultancy, Justin struggled to find the time to attend the classes or even do the work, and frequently had to skip lessons because of other commitments. Furthermore, the classes were expensive and after one semester he decided to discontinue the lessons.

When Justin heard about Rosetta Stone’s language software he decided to go on to the website and try a demo. He was impressed by Rosetta Stone’s trademark Dynamic Immersion teaching methodology as it didn’t require tedious list-learning and grammar drills. Justin decided to buy a German box set in August 2006.

Justin comments: “I have been using Rosetta Stone for over six months now, and I am finding it very effective. I like the fact that I can work at my own pace and in my own time, for example, completing a quick ten-minute lesson at my desk during my lunch break. I don’t have time to learn lists of vocabulary, so the Rosetta Stone method is ideal for me – constantly introducing new words and reinforcing them throughout the lesson.

“My timetable can be unpredictable, and I find that some weeks I spend a few hours learning German and other weeks I am unable to give it even a few minutes. Rosetta Stone allows me to decide when and where I learn, and before a trip to Germany I will try to spend more time on the software,” he continues.

Justin has now acquired a Rosetta Stone Level 1 Russian box set, as he would like to travel to Moscow and St Petersburg later in the year.

“I firmly believe that it’s important to try to learn the local language when you travel, as this ability to communicate with the people around you enriches the whole travel experience,” he concludes.
