ARLINGTON, Va. (June 25, 2007) — Rosetta Stone Inc., creator of the world’s No. 1 language-learning program, has named Jay Topper chief information officer. In this new position, Topper is responsible for the company’s technology infrastructure; financial, operations’ and online systems; as well as the program management office. Topper is also working to create 24/7 capabilities across a variety of areas to serve the company’s growing global footprint while enhancing the technological foundation to serve the overall growth of Rosetta Stone.
“As a globalist, I believe language mastery and cultural empathy are the last barriers to create the most meaningful global experience—from the casual tourist up through the largest companies and governments. Rosetta Stone is a learning solution that addresses both. I am so fortunate that I can in some small way help promote globalization in this manner,” Topper says.
Topper brings to Rosetta Stone 10 years of experience as a chief information officer for two global companies. Prior to his current role at Rosetta Stone, Topper was chief information officer for Seven Worldwide a $550 million publicly traded, pre-media firm servicing the marketing supply chain. Topper’s responsibilities included leading the back-office system and process consolidation of several acquisitions, and creating off-shore capabilities in software development and operations. Prior to Seven Worldwide, he was chief information officer of Production Resource Group a world leader in the entertainment technology industry. While at Production Resource Group, he oversaw the complete buildup of systems and infrastructure accommodating 10-fold growth and a dozen acquisitions over a four-year span.
From 1986-1996, Topper was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, fulfilling various operational assignments including a position as head of counter-narcotics for Naval Intelligence in the Republic of Panama, and commanding of his own ship in Gloucester, Mass.
“We’re excited to welcome Jay to Rosetta Stone,” says Tom Adams, Rosetta Stone chief executive officer. “His global experience in strategic planning, technology and operations make him an excellent person to direct information management systems as we expand the company’s worldwide footprint.”
Topper holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn., and a master of telecommunications and information management degree from Brooklyn Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, N.Y.
