Rosetta Stone Anti-Piracy Efforts Combat Distribution of Counterfeit Products

2009 September, 08

Company Announces Settlements with 19 Individuals for Copyright and Trademark Infringement

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 8, 2009-- Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE:RST), a leading provider of technology-based language-learning solutions, announced today that the company has reached settlements in cases against nearly twenty individuals for copyright and trademark infringement. These individuals were pirating software, including the unauthorized copying, downloading, sharing and selling of counterfeit Rosetta Stone ® language learning software.

“Rosetta Stone is committed to protecting the integrity of our award-winning products and consumers from the threats posed by counterfeit software including identity theft and other security breaches,” said Michael Wu, general counsel, Rosetta Stone. “These settlements are part of our company’s robust policy of taking action against people who distribute pirated software and seeking compensation for such theft.”

“We want to get people talking about how language learning has moved forward but, ultimately, we want to get people talking in another language,” said Sylke Riester, Managing Director of Rosetta Stone Europe. “It’s time to look at things differently: it’s not about whether one person or one nation is better at language learning than another. We all learnt our first language as children and technology enables us to tap into that natural ability.”
