- You will discover that many French words have accent marks – this is to assure accurate pronunciation. Often an accent is placed to differentiate between words that are otherwise identical.
- French nouns are divided into two genders: male and female.
- Certain letters at the end of a word are rarely pronounced - such as the ending -e, -es, or -ent in the phrases: la fille mange; les filles mangent. The Rosetta Stone language learning program will demonstrate the exceptions to this rule through carefully designed interaction and simple exercises.
- Depending on how they’re categorised, French adjectives can come either before or after nouns in sentence structure.
- The French language offers both formal and informal options when speaking with others, depending on the age of the speaker and his or her relationship to the addressee.
