Hindi Learning Tips
Hindi Learning Tips
- In Hindi there is no differentiation between upper- and lowercase letters.
- In written Hindi, each character produces just a single sound. You’ll only have to learn to pronounce a character in one way.
- Each Hindi vowel can assume 2 separate forms: independent and dependent. Generally, the dependent form is used when the vowel comes after a consonant, while the independent form follows a vowel or is the initial letter of a word.
- In general, when a Hindi consonant is not written directly before a vowel character, it is always pronounced with a particular vowel sound called a schwa. This rule makes spelling much simpler as the schwa does not appear in written Hindi.
- Several Hindi consonant sounds are created via subtle variations in tongue movement making them seem almost identical. Other consonants only differ in the volume of air expelled when they are spoken. Rosetta Stone will teach you to recognize and apply these different sounds through experience and exercise.
- There are 2 genders of Hindi nouns: masculine and feminine. Verbs and adjectives may alter to correspond to the gender of the noun.
- Hindi has both polite and informal ways to address others, depending on the age of the speaker and his or her relationship to addressee.
