- The definition of a word in Irish can vary, based on whether the vowel is long or short.
- You will discover that every consonant in Irish presents a choice of two pronunciations, depending on context.
- It’s not unusual to see uppercase letters within a word. In a number of situations, the second letter is written in upper case.
- Irish has no direct equivalent of ‘yes.’ Instead of answering with a single word, an Irish speaker will usually restate the question.
- Irish noun forms are divided into one of two categories: masculine and feminine.
- In many languages, the end of a word will alter to suggest its relationship with other words - Irish words can also alter at the beginning. For example, an ‘h’ may be inserted.
