Korean Learning Tips
Korean Learning Tips
- Hangul is written from left to right, with a space between words.
- In spoken Korean, the pronouns ‘he,’ ‘she,’ and ‘they’ are seldom heard. They are generally replaced by names or common nouns - for example, ‘the man’ or ‘the woman’.
- If the meaning of a sentence can be understood via the conversational context, the subject is often left out.
- Instead of saying the words ‘you’ or ‘your,’ Korean speakers frequently refer to someone by his or her name or occupation. With strangers, the word ‘teacher’ is used as a sign of respect.
- To specify the function of words in a sentence Korean uses suffixes, such as topic, subject, and object markers. With Rosetta Stone you will learn to recognise and apply these markers.
- Formality in Korean speech is established by the relationship of the speakers, their ages and their social status. While Korean has a number of speech styles, Rosetta Stone favours the polite style, which is used among adults in initial meetings, business dealing, and various public scenarios.
