Greek Learning Tips

  • Almost every Greek word is marked with a stress, apart from those with one syllable. The stress tells you where to place emphasis when you pronounce the word.
  • With a few exceptions, every Greek letter corresponds to one distinct sound. We'll teach you these exceptions with our Greek language software.
  • There are three Greek noun categories or 'genders'; masculine, feminine, and neuter.
  • The endings of nouns, adjectives and pronouns change depending on where they appear in the sentence, their gender, and whether they are singular or plural.
  • Greek pronouns are mainly used for emphasis. You'll find they are normally dropped from sentences because their meaning is conveyed by verb endings.
  • Greek speakers will use the plural form of a verb to convey politeness.
  • In written Greek, a question is followed by the ‘;’ punctuation marker.
