• John Hass
    President, Chief Executive Officer & Chairman of the Board of Directors

    John Hass was named interim president and chief executive officer of Rosetta Stone in April 2015 after serving as a director on the Rosetta Stone Board the previous year. One year later, Mr. Hass assumed those roles permanently and was also appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors. A former investment banker and CEO, he was a managing partner at Goldman Sachs prior to his retirement from the firm in 2006. Prior to that, he had an 18-year career as an advisor holding numerous senior roles primarily in New York and Chicago.  He went on to serve as the CEO of OptionsHouse, an online brokerage firm, from the company's launch through its initial growth phase.  More recently he has served on a number of public and private company boards, including Rosetta Stone.

    In addition, John serves on the board of directors of WITNESS, Inc., a global-human rights nonprofit, and serves as a trustee of The Museum of Contemporary Photography.

  • Thomas Pierno
    Chief Financial Officer

    Tom Pierno is responsible for all financial functions at Rosetta Stone, including accounting, finance, tax, investor relations, and treasury. He also oversees the company's global distribution and fulfillment functions.

    Prior to joining Rosetta Stone in 2012, Tom served as CFO and directed supply-chain and IT operations at the marketing-communications firm Vertis Communications. Previously, he was vice president of Financial Planning and Treasury at Comverse Technology, a global provider of software and systems; in that role, he was responsible for worldwide budgets, forecasts, and treasury operations. Tom also served as senior vice president and controller at AOL for 11 years, during which he held various financial-leadership positions in the areas of subscription services, compliance, and strategic acquisition. Before that, Tom was CFO at World Color Press, a publicly traded printer of magazines, catalogs, direct mail, and books. He began his career at Ernst & Young as a certified public accountant.

    Tom graduated summa cum laude with an MBA and BBA in accounting from Pace University. He speaks English and is learning Mandarin.

  • Sonia Galindo
    General Counsel & Secretary

    As General Counsel & Secretary, Sonia Galindo oversees legal, corporate governance, government affairs and compliance matters, as well as human resources for Rosetta Stone worldwide. Sonia joined our team in January 2015 from Keurig Green Mountain Inc., where she served as Vice President, Associate General Counsel – Corporate and Corporate Secretary.

    Sonia has over 20 years of legal experience with Federal agency, large law firm and in-house counsel with multi-national organizations roles, including as Ethics and Employment Counsel at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary at McCormick & Co., Inc., at Blank Rome LLP, and at the US Securities & Exchange Commission. Prior to her practice of law, she was a financial analyst at Citicorp.

    Sonia earned a BA in Finance and a BS in Economics from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland and a Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. Sonia speaks conversational Spanish and is learning Italian.

  • Matthew Hulett
    President, Language

    Matt Hulett is a seasoned entrepreneurial technology executive with more than 20 years of experience leading product, sales, marketing, operations, and engineering teams for global companies. As President of Language for Rosetta Stone, Mr. Hulett is responsible for driving innovation and growth for all aspects of the company's Consumer and Enterprise & Education language businesses, including the strategic direction and execution of product, sales and marketing and infrastructure functions.

    Prior to joining Rosetta Stone, Mr. Hulett served as Entrepreneur in Residence at Pioneer Square Labs, a Seattle-based startup studio focused on cutting edge consumer applications using AI. From 2015-2017, he held the role of Chief Product Officer at the privately-held SaaS-based Human Resources technology provider, TINYpulse, and from 2013-2015 he led the privately-held top 100 internet retailer Click Sales, Inc. (dba ClickBank) as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Hulett has also served as the Senior Vice President of RealNetworks' games division, where he led the right-sizing effort of the traditional gaming business to its first run-rate profitability in several years and led the business' turnaround strategy pivot into social and mobile gaming. With extensive experience in the technology space, Mr. Hulett's previous positions also include CEO of AdXpose and President of the corporate travel division of Expedia, where he took the corporate travel business from an idea to a billion dollar worldwide leader in just a couple of years.

    Mr. Hulett currently serves on the Board of Yapta, the travel industry's first airfare price tracking and refund alert service, and he is an Entrepreneur in Residence at Voyager Capitol, a leading West Coast information technology (IT) venture firm. He graduated with a degree in Marketing and Information Systems from the University of Washington and lives in Seattle, WA.

  • Philip Dunne
    SVP, Global Consumer

    Philip Dunne is Senior Vice President, Global Consumer at Rosetta Stone and oversees all aspects of the company's consumer product division including marketing, ecommerce and product innovation. He specializes in understanding consumer needs, expectations and behavior, and developing product and marketing strategies that deliver positive results. Since joining Rosetta Stone in 2009, Philip has been at the helm of the digital transformation of Rosetta Stone's legacy language learning programs and the explosion of its mobile offerings.

    Philip has an extensive background in the development and marketing of new technology businesses. At America Online (AOL) he enjoyed working on a wide variety of successful product launches in the digital imaging, entertainment, online security and data storage categories. Prior to that, Philip was a product manager at Cable & Wireless managing internet access and web hosting products. Earlier in his career, he worked in various finance and accounting roles and was a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA) in the UK.

    Philip holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) in Finance from Dublin City University, Ireland. He is based out of Rosetta Stone's headquarters in Arlington, VA. He speaks English and is learning French.

  • Nick Gaehde
    President of Lexia Learning

    Nick Gaehde is the President of Lexia Learning. He has been with Lexia since 2005, and became a member of the Rosetta Stone leadership team in 2013.

    Nick brings to Rosetta Stone deep industry experience in literacy, software development and K–12 educational publishing. Having guided Lexia through several transformations, he has maintained a keen focus on the company's mission to help improve student literacy in schools and districts throughout the United States.

    Prior to joining Lexia, Nick served as President of Educators Publishing Service, Inc. (EPS), a publisher of literacy solutions for the K–8 market. Before that, he held product management and marketing positions at Vertigo Development Group, Lotus Development Corporation, and New England Business Service. Nick has served on the boards of Massachusetts Branch of the International Dyslexia Society and ELLevation Education, a company focused on the needs of English language learners. In 2011, industry peers voted Nick as one of the five "EdNET Leaders to Watch," recognizing him for his significant contributions to the education industry. Nick attended Pitzer College, where he earned a B.A. in psychology with a focus on early childhood development, and earned his Master's at Boston University's School of Management. He speaks English and German.

  • Peter Brussard
    SVP, Product

    Peter Brussard is Senior Vice President, Product at Rosetta Stone.

    A data-driven and results-focused leader, Peter has a strong background in strategy & business development, product management, engineering management, marketing management, product design and business intelligence. Since joining Rosetta Stone through the Livemocha acquisition in April 2013, Peter and his team have been responsible for designing, developing, producing, launching and maintaining Rosetta Stone's award-winning suite of language learning products across the consumer, education and enterprise segments.

    He has been instrumental in driving the transformation of Rosetta Stone's product development processes into an enthusiastic and successful embodiment of lean-agile development at a global, enterprise scale.

    A graduate of University of California, Berkeley, Peter's 19-year career spans a variety of management roles at organizations large and small including Microsoft, Compare.NET, SecondSpace, DataSphere, and Livemocha. He is based out of Seattle, WA, speaks English and is learning German.

  • Patrick W. Gross

    Patrick W. Gross has served as a director since February 2006, including serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors from May 2013 to March 2016 and Chair of the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee since May 2012. He previously served as Lead Independent Director of the Board from February 2012 to May 2013.

    Since 2002, Mr. Gross has served as Chairman of The Lovell Group, a private business and technology advisory and investment firm that he founded. Prior to founding The Lovell Group, Mr. Gross was a founder, and served as a principal executive officer from 1970 to 2002, of American Management Systems, Inc., then a publicly traded information technology, consulting, software development and systems integration firm. Mr. Gross is a director of Capital One Financial Corporation, Career Education Corporation, Liquidity Services, Inc. and Waste Management, Inc. Mr. Gross also currently serves on the boards of several private technology-based companies.

    Mr. Gross previously served on the boards of Computer Network Technology Corporation from 1997 to 2006, Mobius Management System, Inc. from 2002 to 2007 and Taleo Corporation from 2006 to 2012. He holds a B.S.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an M.S.E. from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

  • James Bankoff

    James Bankoff was appointed to the Rosetta Stone Board of Directors in November 2012.

    James is chairman and CEO of Vox Media Inc., publisher of the SB Nation family of sports communities; The Verge, a leading consumer-technology website; and Polygon, a website dedicated to covering the world of games and the people who love them. He has served in this capacity since January 2009. Prior to joining Vox Media, James served as a senior adviser with Providence Equity Partners, a leading private equity firm focused on media and telecommunications. Before joining Providence in 2008, he served as executive vice president of programming and products at AOL, where he led the development of and/or presided over AOL.com, TMZ.com, Moviefone, MapQuest, BloggingStocks, AOL Music, and Engadget. He also oversaw AOL's instant-messaging services, AIM and ICQ, and new social-networking and community applications, including Blogsmith and Netscape. James joined AOL in 1995 and held a number of leadership positions, including president, AOL web properties; president, Netscape; and vice president of strategy and operations, AOL brand.

    James holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Emory University.

  • Laurence Franklin

    Laurence Franklin has served on the Rosetta Stone Board of Directors since May 2006 and as the Chair of the Company's Audit Committee since February 2012. He previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors from February 2011 to February 2012.

    Since April 2014, he has served as managing partner of LF Enterprises, LLC, a private investment and business advisory firm. Mr. Franklin previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of Frette Srl, a leading manufacturer and retailer of luxury linens and home furnishings, from July 2011 until January 2014. Mr. Franklin served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Tumi Inc. ("Tumi"), a manufacturer and retailer of luxury travel, business and lifestyle accessories, from 2002 until 2009, and was a board member of Tumi until 2011. Prior to joining Tumi, he served as president of Coach Leatherware Company Inc. and General Manager of Elizabeth Arden Inc. Mr. Franklin began his career in the audit division at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., and later worked in the Management Consulting Services group at Price Waterhouse & Co.

    Mr. Franklin earned a B.A. from Colgate University and an M.S. from the New York University Graduate School of Business. He serves on the boards of two private companies in addition to his role at Rosetta Stone, and is a qualified (non-practicing) Certified Public Accountant.

  • David Nierenberg

    David Nierenberg was appointed to the Rosetta Stone Board of Directors in April, 2015. A professional investor in public and private equity since 1985, he has served on public, private, profit, and not-for-profit boards for over 30 years.

    Mr. Nierenberg is Founder and President of Nierenberg Investment Management Company (NIMCO), which manages The D3 Family Funds, a family of investment partnerships which seek long term capital gain through investment in a concentrated portfolio of large block holdings in undervalued micro-cap public equities. The funds have $130 million under management.

    Before founding NIMCO in 1996, Mr. Nierenberg was a General Partner of Trinity Ventures' first four venture capital partnerships where he invested in financial services, healthcare and other sectors. Mr. Nierenberg began his career at Bain & Company Inc., where he was a Partner, managing strategy, acquisition, and cost reduction projects.

    Mr. Nierenberg serves as Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board of the Ira M. Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership at Columbia Law School. He chairs the Research Advisory Council of Glass, Lewis & Co., and is a member of the Washington State Investment Board, the Board of Directors of STAND for Children, and Riverview Bancorp (NYSE: RVSB).

    Mr. Nierenberg received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School and his B.A. in History, summa cum laude, from Yale College.

  • Laura L. Witt

    Laura Witt has served on the Rosetta Stone Board of Directors since December 2005; she served as chair of the board from December 2005 to February 2011.

    In September 1997, Laura joined ABS Capital Partners, a private equity-investment partnership, where she has been a general partner since January 2001. She served on the boards of Double-Take Software Inc. from 2002 to 2008 and Familymeds Group Inc. from 2004 to 2007. Laura currently serves on the boards of several private companies. She earned a BA from Princeton University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

  • Steven P. Yankovich

    Steven P. Yankovich was elected to serve as a Director on the Rosetta Stone Board in October 2014.

    Currently, Mr. Yankovich is Chief Product Architect at eBay Inc. where he is responsible for ensuring a transformational customer and product experience across eBay's global platform. Prior to that, he held numerous positions within eBay including Vice President of Product and Technology where he helped sell to private equity and spin out Magento Commerce, which he later joined as Chief Product Officer. Mr. Yankovich has extensive experience working in the technology, e-commerce, consumer and enterprise software, and mobile sectors.

    He presently advises a number of startup companies, venture capital firms and serves on a philanthropic board. As a technologist, Mr. Yankovich has a patent portfolio of 36 patents (6 granted and 30 pending).

  • Caroline Tsay

    Caroline Tsay was elected to serve as a director of the Rosetta Stone Board of Directors in December 2014. She is also Chair of the Company's Business Advisory Committee and serves on the Compensation Committee.

    Ms. Tsay is CEO of Compute Software, Inc., a company that dynamically optimizes cloud resource decisions and maximizes business value for companies running on the public cloud. Prior to that, she served as Vice President and General Manager of Software at Hewlett-Packard Enterprise ("HPE") where she focused on growing customers and revenue through a new digital experience and online channel offering SaaS and on-premises software to SMB, mid-market, and large enterprise companies.

    Prior to joining HPE, Ms. Tsay held several product leadership positions at Yahoo!, most notably, Senior Director of Product Management for Search and E-Commerce, where she launched consumer internet innovations that drove 500 million daily visits and $3.5 billion in revenue. She has also worked in IBM's Global Services division where she served as a Senior Consultant in the supply chain and customer relationship management practices.

    Ms. Tsay has been recognized for several honors, including The National Diversity Council's Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Technology and Silicon Valley Business Journal's 40 Under 40. She is currently a director of Travelzoo, a publicly traded global media commerce company.

    Ms. Tsay holds a B.S. in Computer Science and an M.S. in Management Science & Engineering, both from Stanford University.
